Exercise#7

Refugees - Script

Refugees

We can define refugee as a person who is outside their country or citizenship because they have a fear towards to nationality, race and religious and they cannot have peace from their own country. We can simply say those refugees are those who moving across nation-state borders.

The history of the refugee is that they found that the idea of a person who went in holy place they cannot be harmed without inviting diving retribution it was familiar in ancient Greeks and ancient Egyptian. The first international co-ordination of refugee affairs was by the league of nation in 1921.

-         What are facts about refugees?

At the end of 2013, there were 16.7 million refugees worldwide, whom Pakistan had the highest number 1.6 million. 50% of refugees were estimated to be under age 18.

Syrian refugee crisis represents the largest population displacement crisis in the world now. Syrian refugee crisis began in May 2011. To present, displaced half the population of Syria registered before the war, which is approximately eight million people inside Syria while fled four million to neighboring countries: Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and Turkey for safety.

            -  Why refugees moved to the border?

The reasons of refugee, which people displaced by the effect of climate change refugee. There been predictions by the UN charities and some environmentalists that between 200 million people could flood across international borders to escape from the impact of the climate change in next 40 years. For example, Bolivia, Senegal and Tanzania, these three countries affected to climate change, which people have been affected from environmental changes that made people move across the border. The second reason that is the civil war in Syria has turned the country into a refugee-maker. Syria’s had reached their physical limit on their ability to absorb refugee, so that’s led them to move to west. There are a huge number of refugees moving to the west, and they not only from Syria but also from Iraq and Afghanistan. When there’s war, there are refugees; it’s a predictable outcome.

            - The risks and challenges in refugees:

There are risks for refugees, because in some societies women and girls who face specific risk and have less access to their rights unlike the men and boys because of their position in the society. In situation of displacement, their risk such as, discrimination and sexual-based violence can be exacerbated. The UN Refugee Agency promotes gender equality and ensures their equal access to protection.

-         What are the effect of refugees in the world:
-          The economic impact
-          The social impact
-          Local ecology and infrastructure impact

The economic impact, is that refugees when they arrived they compete with the citizens for resources such as, land, water, shelter, food and medical services. Their presence can lead to substantial demands on natural resources, transportation, energy and education.

The social impact is that over 400,000 refugees given shelter in local people’s houses in Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. However, there can be basis for problems, because of different ethnicity, it caused failures in communication and traditional animosities might exist between groups. Other social problems such as, crime rates, theft, murder, prostitution and alcoholism claimed in refugee areas.

The addition group of refugees to existing population creates massive demand for scarce natural resources such as, fuel, land, water and shelter material. Other problem relate to erosion, landslides and decreased soil fertility. Rural wood consumption are considered a serious problem, which that a camp of four thousands refugees would consume approximately 10,000m of wood a year for cooking.

-         What UAE did to help refugees?

UAE has been at the forefront of compassion; United Nations programmers funded by the UAE were helped about 1.5 million displaced people and refugees. From 2012 to this year, UAE donate Dh140m to the UN High Commissioner for refugees alone. The UAE funds the Mrajeeb Al Fhood refugee camp, which opened near Zarqa in Jordan in April 2013. The UNHCR study shows the women of all ages were felt safe at the camp.

In our community of United Arab Emirates there is many refugees that they come from other country like Palestine, Afghanistan and Syria. so they are live with us and sharing everything with us, for example before three years when we was study in high school we saw a lot of refugees students and we made a relationship with them. and all we know they can study with us because of sheikh zayed bin sultan al nahyan -  God mercy on him - he said that all refugees who come from Arab country to united Arab emirates can study and have a job and safe life .

in our opinion we think that a problem of refugees should Resolved from inside the country which they come from by Eliminate problems such as war , racism and injustice but nobody can solve that because its from human nature so we should try to make refugees safe and help them to live in a safe place and make them feel strong and happy by give them what we can do . In Conclusion, I could say that there are more refugees in the world, which need our support and help to give them some hope to live longer.
